I am a long-time Talking Heads fan and also love David Byrne’s solo albums. Byrne made it cool to be geeky and weird when I was an insecure and awkward teen, so he can do little wrong in my book. I’d wanted to include vocal tracks on Chill Dynasty and was extremely happy to come across Byrne’s "My Fair Lady" on the web. He |

has made the track available under a Creative Commons License that allows for legal sampling and I jumped at the chance to do something with the track. Byrne’s track reminded me of the Robert Browning poem and I thought it would be fun to get a kind of dialogue going between the two works. |
My last duchess
You’re a work of wonder
An object of beauty
And so you will remain
A thing of perfection
You’re nothing out of place
Safe from the ravage of time
You are just an illustration
This is just a simulation
Lines and pixels on a piece of paper
You can see me slowly changing
But forever you remain
And you have time because you will live forever
My last duchess
You move me with your smile
The depth and the passion
Of your earnest glance
Faithful reproduction
As if you were alive
Haunting imitation |

You are just an illustration
This is just a simulation
Lines and pixels on a piece of paper
You can see me slowly changing
But forever you remain
And you have time because you will live forever
What price for this half-life
You’re more than you should be
Yet less than you were
Though you’ll outlive me
See me turn back to dust
I’d never trade place
And live like you forever
